If you watch Instagram, you have probably seen these cute little ice rollers or gemstone rollers on all kinds of facials. These trendy little skincare tools are becoming incredibly popular not only in the spa but also as an effective at-home regimen. They are not just relaxing and soothing, but they also have many benefits too.
These fun and pretty looking tools come in a variety of options. Depending on the brand, they can be called 'cooling globes,' 'cryo globes,' 'aceology tools' gua sha rollers' or 'cryo sticks.' Most often, they are sold in pairs and look like a lollypop.
Estheticians use these globes in massage therapy and cold therapy; also called cryotherapy.
Cryotherapy is a cold therapy treatment whereby the targeted area of the body is cooled with ice, air, liquid nitrogen, etc. for therapeutic purposes. An ice globe facial massage is an excellent treatment for reducing puffiness, refreshing tired skin, soothing inflammation, relieving irritated skin, and dispelling tension or pain. Not only does icing work for massage therapy, ice globes also provide benefits for the skin during a facial. It has a wide range of applications and is great for reducing and soothing inflammation, increasing circulation, reducing redness, reducing heat, calming acne sensitivity, firming skin, reducing pores and fine lines, brightening skin, and more. Additionally, ice globes are great for relieving headaches, muscle tension, sinus pain, sunburn, and skin irritation.
Cooling globes provide the benefits of ice therapy combined with the benefits of massage to:
Reduce puffiness
Increase circulation
Relieve pain (headache, muscle tension, sinus pressure)
Sooth skin inflammation and redness
Reduce enlarged pores
Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Brighten skin tone
Reduce dark circles
Increase product absorption
Even though most ice globes look like they are the same in the stores and online, they come in varying qualities. Some of the best ice globes are made of quartz, stainless steel or high quality/ shatter resistant glass. These tend to be higher price because of more durability and higher quality materials. They should always say "freezer safe", as it is more convenient (and safer) to store them in the freezer.
Depending on the quality and brand, ice globes are between $40-$70. They can come in several different sizes from small to large. There are also very small versions that can be used for the orbits around the eyes and lips.
Ice globes may be used daily during your facial skin care routine and are great for de-puffing the eyes, stimulating blood flow, soothing inflammation, reducing redness and acne inflammation, firming skin, easing sinus pain or headache, and providing a refreshed glow.
Use these in addition to your skin care products to enhance their effectiveness. They are additionally valuable when used after skincare procedures like extractions, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, waxing, etc. At Bella Nuova, these are asked for regularly during our treatments.
Remember that these gloves can be fragile, and some models are not freezer safe. Make sure to read instructions that are included with your particular purchase.
